Superboy #146 (DC Comics, April 1968)
Story Title: The Runaway Superboy!
Cover Artist: Neal Adams | Writer: Leo Dorfman | Pencils: Curt Swan | Inker: Sheldon Moldoff
Cover & Visual Highlights
A haunting, emotional scene: Superboy stands beside a poster that reads “Please Come Home. All Is Forgiven,” his posture heavy with longing and regret. At his side is Krypto, the loyal Super-Dog, presenting a poignant tableau of separation and hope. The dramatic imagery draws you into the heart of the story before you even glance at the first page.
Story Overview
Superboy unexpectedly destroys his robots and flees home in disguise — after which “missing” posters beg him to return. On the road, he encounters children in need: one wrongly accused, another orphaned, and a blind couple yearning for rescue. Always the hero, Clark Kent must decide whether to remain hidden or reclaim his place with the Kents — especially while signs of forgiveness echo behind him.

Collector’s Note
This issue is beloved for both its emotional storytelling and compelling cover art. It’s not typically considered a “key issue,” but in higher grades, the Neal Adams cover (especially featuring Krypto and the poster motif) commands collector attention. For more modest grades, it’s a striking Silver Age piece to round out any Superboy or Krypto collection.
